Mod Post [24 Jan 2004|09:06pm]

Your moderator identification here.
There are a few things I just wanted to mention, so if you read this post you will be enlightened on a few new changes, etc.

1) A few people have been asking about "I got the answers right too, why didn't I win?" -- it's only the FIRST person to answer them that wins. Starting this week, I'm going to be keeping a list of who gets the questions right and they will be listed in the post too. :)
2) Thanks again lady_eldarwen for making banners for the winners. Previous winners: we'll have yours ready ASAP.
3) A plug for pippinroxmysox because lotrtrivia is plugged in their userinfo. You get a link in OUR userinfo if you link lotrtrivia. :)
4) All posts (except this & the previous post) have been filed into this community's memories, so if you want to find a past Mod Post, Tuesday Two, or Trivia Question Set all you have to do is look in the memories. :)
5) Remember to make a comment if you have a LotR-related site that you would like plugged in the next Mod Post!

That's it for now. :)

We all know what that means.
Congratulations to this week's winner, xxsavemexx! Since this is your second time (in a row) winning, if you answer this weeks questions you will not be eligible to win (but you can answer them just for the heck of it). The answers to last week's questions:

1. Sting glows what color when anyone from what race is near? Sting glows blue when Orcs are near. A lot of people only answered one of the questions :P
2. Who says "If you can’t distinguish between a Man and a Hobbit, your judgment is poorer than I imagined. They’re as different as peas and apples!"? Bilbo Baggins (in the books)
3. What three herbs did Samwise tell Gollum to find for him (in book two)? That would be thyme, sage, and bay-leaves. Congratulations to all who got that right, it was tough if you didn't look!
4. Whose daughter was Elanor the Fair? Samwise Gamgee (and Rosie)
5. How many magic rings were given to the Elves? Dwarves? Men? Three to the Elves, seven to the Dwarves, and nine to the race of Men.

So now for this week's questions!
1) TRUE or FALSE: Boromir & Faramir were cousins, grandsons of Denethor.
2) What was the common language spoken in Middle-Earth called?
3) Who were the five members of the Fellowship that ended up sailing West?
4) What is the name of Gandalf's sword?
5) What river flows out of Lothlorien to Anduin?

So there you have it!
& Thanks to everyone who participated (& is participating) in this week's Tuesday Two. :)

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ! [12 Jan 2004|08:49pm]

[ mood | blah ]

This doesn't really have to do with the community, but there are a few things I'd like to do/say.

[one] First of all, I'd just like to leave a link to Nixxie's Iconorama. She makes livejournal icons, and they're all free! She has tons of Lord of the Rings icons (characters and actors) plus she has a bunch of icons from other movies too (all free).
Here's a button:
Iconorama: Nixxies LJ Icons
^Feel free to link to her icon site on your livejournal or site if you wish, the more publicity the better! Same for this community, as also. I'll deal with that in a minute. :)

[two] I'd just like to give a big thank you to everyone who has joined the community and been participating. Also, thank you to anyone who's been linking us! I've decided to make a seperate spot in the userinfo, and it will be titled "Users Linking Us" or something like that. If you've left a link in your LJ to lotrtrivia, you can get your livejournal username placed under that column. Just leave a comment with the link to the entry/userinfo where you've linked us and I'll add you. :) I'd like this community to be more popular...spread the word! :P

[three] Just because there are certain people who are really outstanding at this trivia stuff...just to give some other people a chance I've made a new rule: If you win two times in a row, you cannot enter answers for the set of trivia the 3rd week. If you want to, you can, but your answers will not be eligible to win. I hate to have to do this, but if I don't the same person will win everytime. :P

[four] Another plug. lotricons <- Really terrific Lord of the Rings icon community. Go go go!

[five] If you'd like to be linked in the next entry similar to this because you have a Lord of the Rings site/LJ/whatever, just leave your URL and a quick note in a comment. I'll try to get it in the next of these kind of posts. :)

[six] I think that's about it, there was probably something else I was meaning to say but oh well. :P Yeah...anyways congrats to last week's winners again, xxsavemexx & dramaturgy and stay tuned. This week's winner will be announced Friday, along with the new set of five trivia questions.

[seven] Whoops, one more thing. Starting as of now I'll be filing posts into categories in the Memories section, and there will probably be three categories: Mod Posts (such as this one), Trivia Questions, and Tuesday Two (which will be started tomorrow; more explanation then). :) So everything you need to find will be easier to find! :D

Thank you very very much,

It's Friday! Hurray!
The people who won last week's questions:
dramaturgy & xxsavemexx

Answers to the questions:
1. What day was Frodo stabbed by the Morgul blade at Weathertop? October 6th
2. What is another name for waybread? lembas
3. Finish the quote: "All that is gold __________" "...does not glitter"
4. What other names has Aragorn been/is called by? (Hint: There are 3, not including Aragorn) There are actually more than three, my brain was being weird that day and I don't know why I put that. The three I was thinking of were Strider, Elessar, and Estel, but thank you xxsavemexx for pointing out that there were more. So xxsavemexx wins as well. (midhenaer was the first to get them all right)
5. Bregalad is of what race? Ent, of course!

1. Sting glows what color when anyone from what race is near?
2. Who says "If you can’t distinguish between a Man and a Hobbit, your judgment is poorer than I imagined. They’re as different as peas and apples!"?
3. What three herbs did Samwise tell Gollum to find for him (in book two)?
4. Whose daughter was Elanor the Fair?
5. How many magic rings were given to the Elves? Dwarves? Men?

So hopefully there's an even amount of easy/hard questions in that set...I'm trying my best. :D

Thanks everyone for joining & submitting answers and stuff!
Tell your friends! <3

Hello, and welcome to lotrtrivia!
LOTR Trivia is a community where, every week (usually on Friday), I will post a set of five Lord of the Rings trivia questions. LJ users can try to answer these questions in a comment. Winners of each set will be announced the following Friday, when a new set of trivia questions are put up. Winners will have their sites (& LJs if they wish) linked in the userinfo of the community and possibly elsewhere, if I find another spot. Another prize may be given if I come up with something. =P

Anyways...the first set of trivia questions will be posted tomorrow, even though it's a Sunday. So get your brains ready! Questions may include trivia from the books and the movies. :)

PS: Thank you _switchblade for coming up with the idea of posting a set of five questions every Friday. :D
PPS: I'm also thinking of adding something here, the "Tuesday Two", where I will post two questions (not trivia) that pertain to LOTR and you can answer them in either your livejournal, website/weblog, or in a comment. But that will be decided later. :)
